What is 710 Day? Your Guide to National Dab Day

July 7, 2023

The Origins of 710 Day

710 Day, affectionately known as “National Oil Day,” or “National Dab Day” is a celebration of cannabis extracts. On July 10th each year, the cannabis community ignites its enthusiasm for oils, waxes, shatters, and other mind-blowing concentrates. Why 7/10 specifically? Well, like many of the most well-known terms and names within the industry, the answer is super clever and super duper simple. Basically, when you flip “710” upside down, it spells “OIL”!

The exact origins of 710 are up for debate. Some attribute the term to a rapper named Task Rok who released an album on July 10th, 2011 entitled, “The Movement.” The album featured numerous references to cannabis concentrates including songs like “Boil That Oil” and  “7:10”. Other sources claim that the term “710” appeared in the Urban Dictionary as early as 2010. Either way, the term grew in popularity when LA Weekly published an article entitled “710 is the new 420” in July of 2013, the same year of the cannabis community’s first official 710 celebration, The 710 Cup.

No matter its origins, 710 has become a day where people come together to spread their love for dabs, spark new friendships, and showcase the advancements in the world of cannabis extraction. Additionally, as the cannabis industry continues to evolve, the realm of concentrates continues to expand with new and exciting innovations every day. From shatter to live resin, wax to distillate, these concentrated forms of cannabis offer unique experiences, intensified effects, and a wide range of diverse applications.

Which Cannabis Concentrates Can I Enjoy on 710 Day?

Before you embark on your 710 journey this year, here is a qick breakdown of some of the most popualr forms of extracts and concentrates that you can enjoy this year! Cannabis concentrates are potent derivatives of the cannabis plant that have undergone extraction processes to isolate the plant’s most desirable compounds, such as cannabinoids and terpenes. Consequently, these extracts offer a highly concentrated form of cannabis, allowing users to typically experience quicker onset, intensified effects and fuller flavors.

Let’s explore some popular types of cannabis concentrates and their unique uses or functions:

Shatter

Shatter is a translucent, brittle concentrate with a glass-like appearance. Chiefly known for its high THC content, shatter is a popular choice for experienced users seeking a potent and rapid onset of effects. It can be consumed by vaporization or dabbing, delivering a strong and flavorful experience.

Wax is available in various consistencies, such as budder, crumble, and honeycomb, catering to different preferences.

Live Resin

Live resin is a concentrate extracted from freshly harvested cannabis plants, thus preserving the plant’s original terpene profile. This extraction method captures a wide range of aromatic compounds. As a result, Live Resin tends to also be more flavorful. Live resin is frequently used in vaporizers, providing an immersive and aromatic experience.

Rosin

Additionally, rosin is a solventless concentrate produced by applying heat and pressure to cannabis flower or hash. As a result, this extraction method yields a sticky and translucent substance that retains the plant’s natural cannabinoids and terpenes. Rosin can be consumed by dabbing or vaporization, offering a flavorful and potent experience.

Distillate

Finally, distillate is a highly purified cannabis concentrate that undergoes a refinement process that removes impurities. The result is a clear, viscous liquid. Known for its high potency and versatility, people use distillate for a wide range of applications, including vaporizers, edibles, and topicals. Its neutral flavor profile makes it an ideal choice for adding cannabis benefits to various products.
